About Roy Barnett Jr.

Roy Barnett Jr. aka RoyLeeB is a Denver, Colorado based portrait photographer and creative. As a portrait photographer he strives to capture the uniqueness and emotion of each person he photographs; the essence of what makes each of us different. Yet, to me a portrait isn't only a photograph of a person, it's the soul and life of a moment in time. It can be a place, a feeling, or idea.

Born and raised in North Tulsa, Oklahoma of Black & Native American descent (Choctaw Tribal member), he received his education at Oklahoma State University. During this time he studied abroad in Osaka, Japan at 関西外国語大学 (Kansai Gaidai) which dramatically changed his perspective and furthered his love of photography.  Although he had been "taking pictures" since his childhood, the absolute beauty of Japan made him fall in love with photography and travel.  Having traveled to at least eight different countries in Asia and Europe with a camera he has been blessed to break bread with people from all over the world.

His passion for creativity, be it as a musician, writer, photographer, videographer, has led him into education where he has spent the past seventeen or so years working with predominantly BLACK, Indigenous, People of Color (BIPOC) students, and he wouldn't have it any other way.

"Creativity is about translating the world as we see it to express and communicate who we are with others and ourselves."
